About me

Liz Campbell | E-RYT 500 Certified

My name is Liz and I’m a dedicated yoga teacher who specializes in guiding transformative experiences through breath, movement, and mindfulness. In addition to vinyasa flow classes, I love teaching restorative yoga, pranayama, and working with people one-on-one.

When I am not practicing or teaching yoga, I am probably at home either cooking, reading, creating art, writing, laying in the sunshine, planning yoga retreats, spending time with my favorite people, or petting a cat.

How I discovered yoga

Yoga came into my life when I was nineteen and working at an iconic vegan restaurant in Laguna Beach, California. I was at the time obsessed with seeking out a healthier lifestyle, more self-confidence, as well as greater happiness in life, and a coworker happened to invite me to my very first yoga class.

As much as I actually disliked my introductory yoga class, it ignited an unforeseen passion that led me to explore various styles of yoga before finding my true calling in vinyasa. The creative flows, profound physical and mental benefits, and harmony of movement spoke to my soul on a new and exciting level. This discovery helped me not only create a healthier relationship with myself, it also motivated me to become a yoga teacher.

My yoga teacher training and first teaching gig

Just a few years after beginning my yoga practice, I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara. Shortly afterward, I got my first real teaching gig at Ritual Yoga Arts in Laguna Beach, which is where I spent nearly six years teaching, managing, and continuing my yoga education through avenues that intrigued me.

During my time at Ritual, I also achieved my 500-hour certification in Bali, studied Devanagari Sanskrit on the island of Kauai, became certified to teach Aerial Yoga in Hollywood, and continued refining myself as the teacher that my inner being recognizes – this, as I’ve learned, is a never-ending process.

Finding my purpose through teaching yoga

Within the first decade of my career, the universe presented me with many unexpected opportunities from leading retreats and facilitating classes in some of the most beautiful places in the world, to co-founding the yoga studio of my dreams.

But, after working with thousands of people, I’ve found the most fulfilling part of what I do is supporting the health and empowerment of all humans – particularly women. Having the opportunities to help others feel healthier, happier, and more at peace, makes me feel truly blessed.

Yoga may have started out as an obsession in my early twenties to improve my health, feel more confident, and find inner peace, however once I became a yoga teacher, that obsession evolved into helping others make those same kinds of improvements in their lives.

Working at Ritual was my first and most impactful chapter as a yoga instructor. While I was there, I taught Gentle Flow and Vinyasa Flow, and I was an assistant manager for three of those years. This is where I first connected with the local yoga community, developed so many of my teaching skills, and grew my self-confidence.

My Specialties

Liz practicing pranayama

Prānāyāma

Cleansing • Tranquil • Balancing

Pranayama enhances mental clarity, reduces stress, and improves respiratory function. These are just a few of the positive effects that pranayama has to offer, and they are noticeable within minutes. I love watching how quickly the energy shifts in my students when we practice Pranayama, I think it’s something everyone would greatly benefit from.

Liz's vinyasa yoga class

Vinyasa Flow

Energizing • Dynamic • Active

Vinyasa was my first love on my yoga path, and it’s still one of my favorite classes to teach and practice. What I enjoy most about vinyasa is its variations of postures, how they harmoniously flow together, and how good it feels to move dynamically and mindfully.

Liz's restorative yoga class

Restorative Yoga

Grounding • Relaxing • Passive

Restorative yoga is a wonderful compliment to life as it focuses on deep relaxation, making it very accessible for anybody. It is one of my favorite yoga practices because it creates more mental and physical spaciousness, calms the nervous system, and enhances overall well-being.

More about me from my blog

Bali, Indonesia
By Liz Campbell May 31, 2024
I was only nineteen when a friend dragged me to my first yoga class in Laguna Beach, but I didn’t truly fall in love with the practice until three years later, when I discovered Vinyasa. I loved the variety of poses, or asanas, that were taught, the way they flowed so beautifully together, and I mostly loved how the practice made me feel. I initially started going to yoga because of all the superficial desires that many of us have, like wanting to be stronger, more flexible, healthier, etc. As expected, I began noticing gradual changes in my body, as well as a multitude of other positive effects after a relatively short amount of time. Looking back, I was so excited to discover this new obsession, however, I was completely unaware of how deep this whole yoga thing was about to take me. After just a couple months of maintaining a consistent yoga practice, my physical body was feeling strong and limber, but something else happened that I didn’t expect. My mind became more peaceful and present throughout the day, even during events that would have normally caused me to stress out. I began to grow more patience, contentment, and even a greater tolerance to life-stuff. Experiencing all these positive effects not only deepened my curiosity about the practice but also drove me to become a teacher. When I attended my first yoga teacher training at twenty five, I got a taste of exactly how much more there was to yoga than just contorting your body into multiple shapes. I learned detailed posture alignment, how to regulate the energy throughout my body, and that there were seven other limbs of yoga besides asana. Finding out that yoga was so much more than the poses was a wonderful realization that opened my eyes to the world of the subtle body and the idea that we can truly shape our own reality, one present moment at a time. The following year, I decided to take my education to the next level and attend my second yoga teacher training in Bali. At the time, I thought it would be similar to my first training experience, but it ended up being the most intense five weeks of my life. We spent countless hours studying, practicing asana, and meditating with nothing but the sound of birds, dogs, and the occasional motorbike. This all took place in a beautiful upper-level bungalow in the middle of the rice fields, with the most breath-taking 360 degree view. My last week of training was the most mentally and physically grueling, spent entirely in silence, and sitting in meditation seven hours a day, which we had been preparing for over the prior weeks.
